Tom grew up in historic Kingston, New York, the first capital of New York State.

He attended the State University of New York at Albany and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in History.

In 1996, Tom graduated from Vermont Law School and embarked on a career in real property law, beginning his career representing a local lender in residential real estate closings in Upstate New York.  In 1997, he moved to New York City and began a lifelong career in foreclosure law and creditor’s and debtor’s rights law.

Initially, Tom worked in the field of mortgage foreclosures and later worked as in-house counsel to a United States Small Business Association licensed lender managing its portfolio of distressed commercial loans, including overseeing the foreclosure of these commercial loans and liquidation of assets.

While working as private counsel in 1999, Tom became involved in the relatively new area of foreclosing tax liens for the New York City Tax Lien Trust.

In 2005, Tom accepted a position as one of Fidelity National Title Insurance Group’s in-house litigation counsel for the State of New York.  There, Tom litigated title and other related issues for FNTG’s clients throughout the State.

Thereafter, in 2010, Tom returned to his roots and formed The Law Office of Thomas P. Malone, PLLC, located across from Grand Central Station in New York City.  He focuses the bulk of his practice on foreclosing New York City Tax Liens and has expanded his practice to include Nassau County New York Tax Liens.  His involvement in the niche area of foreclosure of tax liens has made him an expert in the field and outside attorneys often seek his advice in this area.

Although Tom focuses his practice on tax lien foreclosures, he hasn’t lost sight of the other areas of real estate law that he grew up with which formed his career.   Tom still handles residential and commercial closings on a regular basis as well as litigates title and other related issues.

He is a member of the New York State and New York City Bar Associations as well as the National Tax Lien Association.
